Getting started

Five steps, and no cost until care begins

Arranging care for someone is rarely the moment you are at your most organised. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.

  1. Step 1: One phone call

Call 07720 829727 or send an enquiry. Tell us what is happening in your own words — you do not need to have worked out what kind of care you need, or to have any paperwork ready. Most first calls take ten minutes.

    • No cost, and no commitment of any kind.
    • We will say honestly if we are not the right fit.
    • If it is urgent, say so and we will treat it that way.
  2. Step 2: A free care assessment, at home

We visit. We listen. We look at the practical realities — the stairs, the medication, the routine, what the person actually wants help with rather than what everyone assumes. It usually takes about an hour and there is nothing to sign.

    • Free, with no obligation afterwards.
    • Family are welcome to be there — or not, if the person prefers.
    • We will tell you if you do not need us yet.
  3. Step 3: An agreed care plan

We write down what will happen: which visits, how long, at roughly what times, what each visit covers and how we get in. It goes into Birdie so every carer works from the same picture, and you get a copy.

    • The price is the published rate for that visit length.
    • £0 setup fee — nothing to pay for arranging it.
    • You agree it before anything starts.
  4. Step 4: Your first visits

Your first 30-minute care call is free. Wherever the rota allows it, we introduce the carer beforehand, because a familiar face at the door on day one makes an enormous difference.

    • The first 30-minute care call is on us.
    • Visit notes recorded, so you know what happened.
    • Tell us straight away if anything is not right.
  5. Step 5: Reviewing as things change

Needs change gradually and usually without anyone announcing it. The care plan gets revisited rather than filed, and if the level of support is no longer right — in either direction — we say so.

    • Cancel immediately within the first 7 days, paying only for care received.
    • Increase, reduce or stop care with reasonable notice.
    • Ask for a different carer at any time, without justifying it.

Nothing to pay until care starts

The assessment is free. The setup fee is £0. The first 30-minute care call is free. Nothing is payable at any point before care actually begins.

Once it does, you pay the published rate for each visit — the same rate whichever service the visit is for. No mileage charge, no out-of-area premium, no admin fee.

What you get before committing

Four things that make the first step easier

If we are not the right fit

Sometimes the honest answer at an assessment is that someone needs more than visiting care can safely provide — nursing input, or a level of supervision that scheduled calls cannot give. When that is the case we will say so, and we will try to point you somewhere better. Taking on care we cannot deliver properly would not be a favour to anyone.

Start with step one

Tell us what is happening and we will take it from there.

Fields marked with an asterisk are required.

So we can call you back.

So we can check whether we cover the address.

Optional — we can work this out together.

A short description is plenty. Please keep it high level — no detailed medical information is needed here.

Questions about getting started

How long does the whole process take?
From first call to first visit is often a matter of days, though it depends on the rota and how complex the support is. We will give you a realistic answer at the assessment rather than an optimistic one that falls apart afterwards.
Do we have to decide anything on the day of the assessment?
No. Nothing is signed at an assessment. Take the care plan away, discuss it with whoever needs to be involved, and come back to us when you are ready.
What if the person receiving care does not want it?
That is extremely common and it is worth taking seriously rather than steamrollering. Starting small — one short visit a day, framed as help with a specific task rather than as 'carers' — is often what makes it acceptable. We will work with you on how it is introduced.
Who needs to be involved in the assessment?
The person receiving care, first and foremost. Family are welcome, and often helpful. If someone holds a lasting power of attorney or there are capacity considerations, tell us early so we handle it properly.
What if we need to stop care?
Within the first 7 days you can cancel immediately, paying only for care already received. After that, the normal 2-week notice period set out in your care agreement applies. There is no exit fee and nothing to negotiate your way out of.
What do we pay, and when?
The published rate for each visit length — £20 for a 30-minute care call, £27 for 45 minutes and £31.50 for an hour. Nothing is payable before care begins: the assessment is free and the setup fee is £0.
